On rotis

Ever since i came here in lausanne, the things i've been missing most are rotis and people. Now, since my culinary skills were learnt just two weeks before coming here, I had no idea about making rotis.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I bought atta(flour) from an indian shop in the city center. I had also bought some ready to eat indian food(mostly paneer things). Today seemed like a good day to give roti-making a try. I've put my images on the picasa share here
This saturday, I was wandering around on my cycle, when I saw one of these patches of forest that you see so frequently in lausanne.

Here's a video about it.

On Asimov and the Kindle

A while ago, while looking up e-book readers on the net, i was struck by deja-vu.

In 1945, nearly 15 years before satellites became a reality, arthur clarke had written about them in his sf novels.

In 1988, asimov wrote "Prelude to Foundation", part of the Foundation series. It is a series I recommend wholeheartedly. Anyway, in his book, asimov talks of an ancient book reader(the plot is based 20000 years in the future) which holds books electronically inside it, has the same dimensions as a normal book, and runs on batteries (For those who have read the book, you'd remember the "Mycogenian Book", which is so ancient and secretive that no microfilms exist, and such an "archaic" reader must be used.)

And sure enough, around 20 years later, amazon comes out with Kindle, which is soon followed by a whole bunch of e-book readers based on the same principle!

Go SF!

Hostel Nite!

So friday was Narmad's Hostel nite. The best part about it was the grub. Our very own mess sec Gals had put together an impeccable menu. We had pizza, burger, pepsi and unlimited ice-creams. Grub was over by around 9. The wing videos came up then, and were really awesome (too gay though)

I got together with other wing junta to shake a leg to a DJ's tunes soon after. Because of the humidity, it was sweaty business. Luckily I had got an old shirt out for it. But we all enjoyed it. The final years danced like crazy. I lost my room key while dancing and had to cut open the room lock later in the night. The next day, I found out the key on the notice board. Lucky for me, coz the cycle key was also out there :)

The RG's went on from 11 in the night to the wee hours of the morning. Ofcourse, the final years had already started boozing by then in their wings.
Taaru got thulped rather badly in his RG.

Even better stuff was to come as we found out that we had ordered an excess of pizzas and burgers. The mess sec gave the extra stuff out for free. The pizzas had gotten cold, but the burgers were still fabulous.

Yours truly stayed around till 6 in the morning listening to the RG's. For the final years in particular, it was senti stuff.

There were many great guys in the batch that passes out. Some of them were (are) insti-famous (Tak,Shobhan,Theory,Cuppax,Rohit etc).
Wish them tons of luck for the future!!
